People & Lifestyle

The communities on the Sonoma Coast value typical California living, enjoying a more relaxed and laid-back lifestyle in their spare time. However, those who live on the Sonoma Coast also have a deep appreciation for hard work, which is why it’s become such an ideal location for young professionals and entrepreneurs. Many artists, writers, and innovators have also made these communities their home, which has helped establish the area as a cultural hub.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Sonoma Coast dining scene is unarguably one of the best in the area, with numerous outstanding restaurants and eateries on every corner. Nick’s Cove in Marshall (so technically Marin County) is certainly a local favorite. This award-winning restaurant serves classic California cuisine with a dedication to sustainability and local ingredients. Their seasonal menu includes dishes such as prawn enchiladas, cast-iron macaroni and cheese, and a delightful cioppino.

Established in 1877, William Tell House Saloon & Inn in Downtown Tomales has been a staple of the Sonoma Coast for generations. This one-of-a-kind inn and tavern is one of the oldest in the county, and their dedication to using the best local ingredients has helped turn them into a destination restaurant. Their menu includes dishes like baked goat cheese, seafood chowder, and chorizo and clams that guests rave over.

Timber Cove Resort is a stunning hotel located on 23 spectacular acres of coastline. The resort restaurant, Coast Kitchen, is also one of the best around. Working directly with local farmers and producers, this restaurant serves a New American-style seasonal menu with dishes such as Tomales Bay oysters, grilled salmon wings, seafood cassoulet, and an outstanding rabbit cavatelli.

Things to Do

Another one of the area’s numerous benefits is the variety of things to do throughout the coastal communities. If you’re an Alfred Hitchcock fan, you’ll undoubtedly want to give yourself a tour of The Birds locations in Bodega Bay. Realizing that this unique community had such a strong resemblance to English coastal towns, Hitchcock believed it would be the perfect setting for his 1961 horror flick. You’ll love being able to get a first-hand look at locations such as the schoolhouse, the docks, and Bay Hill Road.

Sonoma Coast residents take their chowder very seriously, and the annual Chowder Day on the Bay is one of the most popular local festivals where guests get the chance to try some of the best from the area’s chefs. The Bodega Seafood, Art & Wine Festival is another beloved annual event that celebrates the incredible bounty and prosperity of the region, bringing together the highest quality local food purveyors, wineries, micro-breweries, entertainers, and artists for this one-of-a-kind showcase.

Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival is a fantastic annual event where the whole family can enjoy various craft booths, live music, entertainment, wonderful food, and more. Artisans and vendors from all over California come to this fun-filled festival every year, guaranteeing guests will experience the best of this unique and beautiful area.
